Commencement - die Abschlussfeier, die eigentlich jeder aus so vielen amerikanischen Filmen kennt. Akademische Roben, H\u00fcte, die in die Luft geworfen werden \u2013 ein bisschen feierlich und ein bisschen kitschig. Dieses Event ist auch gleichzeitig das Ende meines Masterstudiums.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Damit an dem gro\u00dfen Tag auch nichts schiefgeht, wurde im Vorfeld eine Art Schnitzeljagd f\u00fcr uns organisiert. Dabei sind wir alle Stationen des Tages durchgegangen und haben ge\u00fcbt, wie man die Robe richtig anzieht, wie man \u00fcber die B\u00fchne laufen soll, um das Abschlusszeugnis in Empfang zu nehmen, welche H\u00e4nde wir zu sch\u00fctteln haben und wo der Fotograf steht. Ein sehr lustiges Event und eine sch\u00f6ne M\u00f6glichkeit ein paar Mitstudenten nochmals zu treffen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Der eigentliche Tag war \u2013 wie das bei solchen Ereignissen meistens so ist \u2013 ziemlich anstrengend. Wir haben uns bereits um halb acht morgens zum gemeinsamen Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck getroffen. Hier wurde geschaut, dass auch jeder die Robe korrekt tr\u00e4gt. Einige meiner Mitstudierenden wurden au\u00ad\u00dfer\u00addem ausgew\u00e4hlt eine kurze Reden zu halten.<\/span><\/p>\n

Um neun Uhr begann dann das universit\u00e4tsweite Commencement, zu dem alle Absolventen eingeladen waren. Anschlie\u00dfend trennten sich die Fachbereiche, um im kleineren Rahmen die Zeugnisse zu \u00fcbergeben. Das Commencement der Fletcher School begann um halb zw\u00f6lf und dauerte etwa zwei Stunden (Programm<\/a>). Zwischen universit\u00e4tsweitem und Fletcher Commencement mussten wir uns nat\u00fcrlich noch programmweise und alphabetisch sortieren \u2013 was auch etwas Zeit brauchte. Teilweise war es so windig, dass mir fast mein Hut vom Kopf geflogen ist.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nach dem feierlichen Einzug wurden zun\u00e4chst mehrere Reden gehalten, bevor es endlich zur \u00dcbergabe der Urkunden kam. Endlich ging es los! Nacheinander durften wir dann \u00fcber die B\u00fchne laufen, die entsprechenden drei Paar H\u00e4nde sch\u00fctteln und zwei Fotos machen. Danach war der offizielle Teil auch schon vorbei. <\/span>Fun fact<\/b>: In der Mappe ist \u00fcbrigens (noch) keine Urkunde \u2013 diese wird erst sp\u00e4ter vom Pr\u00fcfungsamt ausgegeben. Vermutlich um zu verhindern, dass sie w\u00e4hrend der Feierlichkeiten verloren geht oder besch\u00e4digt wird.<\/span><\/p>\n

Im Anschluss gab es nat\u00fcrlich reichlich Gelegenheit f\u00fcr Fotos \u2013 und daf\u00fcr, sich von Mitstudenten und Professoren zu verabschieden. Ich habe das auch entsprechend genutzt, war aber ehrlich gesagt auch froh, als ich danach in Ruhe mit meiner Familie auf meinen bestandenen Abschluss ansto\u00dfen konnte. Zum Abschluss des Tages sind wir abends noch gemeinsam in Boston essen gegangen und haben diesen langen, ereignisreichen und sch\u00f6nen Tag entspannt ausklingen lassen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Es war ein wirklich besonderer Tag f\u00fcr mich \u2013 das Ende meines Masterstudiums und gleichzeitig ein weiterer Meilenstein in meinem Leben. Ich bin froh, dass ich damals den Mut hatte, f\u00fcr den Master ins Ausland zu gehen. Diese Entscheidung habe ich nicht bereut. In den letzten zwei Jahren habe ich so viele neue Erfahrungen gemacht und Erinnerungen gesammelt. Ich habe viel gelernt \u2013 nicht nur in meinen Vorlesungen, sondern auch \u00fcber die Welt und \u00fcber mich selbst.
