The Beginning of the 2nd Year!
Friday, September 27th 2024
After my internship in Singapore, I finally headed back to Germany. I hadn’t been back since I left at the beginning/middle of January, so eight months in total. The two and a half/almost three weeks went by far too quickly, and I didn’t manage to do everything I had planned. Sooner than expected, I was on the plane and returned to Boston. But I’ll be back in around three months for Christmas.
Unlike last year, I didn’t have an orientation week as I’m starting my second and therefore last year at Tufts University. I should know my way around things now, and everything should be familiar. What should be different now, or what should be new for me?
The first adjustment was returning to Fletcher and seeing many new and unfamiliar faces. Everything still looks the same, apart from one or two new or replaced pieces of furniture, but the students have changed. Of course, this happens every semester and at every university, but because the number of students at Fletcher is smaller, you know almost everyone by sight. When I entered the university building for the first time, it felt completely different.
On the other hand, so this semester is not too dull, I have applied to be a cross-registration student at Harvard. Some universities in Boston agree that students from other universities can also attend their lectures. This agreement allows me to “apply” for specific Harvard lectures. After that, it is at the professor’s discretion to admit the students. Of course, this depends on how famous the lecture is. Harvard must allow its students to get a spot in their preferred lectures. Additionally, the course requirements must be met.
When I decided to specialize in “International Finance and Banking for a Sustainable World” and “International Legal Studies,” I tried my luck at Harvard Law School. You can’t imagine how happy I was when my petition was approved.
In addition to my three Fletcher courses this semester – International Investment Law, International Finance, and The Arts of Communications – I will attend a lecture on the American Bankruptcy Code at Harvard. It’s a dream come true, and I’m super excited about the lectures and the coming three months!
